The Two-Thousand Mile Dinner Trip

If you grab dinner with your boss, that’s a sign that you probably like your job. Maybe the two of you will duck out of the office a little early one day so you can hit up that awesome happy hour at the bar across the street. No matter what you decide to do, or where you decide to go, it’s always a good idea to continue building your relationship with the people who keep you employed.

But, what if your boss invites you to dinner a thousand miles from where you live? And what if you’ve never actually met your boss face to face? And what if last-minute flights are through the roof expensive?

Well, I’ll tell you what I did… I made the fifteen hour drive (one-way) and had one of the best nights of my life.

two thousand mile dinner trip

Last weekend, I took a little road trip from Phoenix, Arizona to Austin, Texas to meet the founders of Codeable – Per Esbensen and Tomaz Zaman. These two have helped me immeasurably in my career as a freelance developer and it was a no-brainer to finally turn our virtual network into some real-life connections.

I also got to meet David Papandreas, my account concierge and Codeable’s chief happiness hero. He’s also the guy responsible for me landing my job with Codeable in the first place. Thanks David!

I’ve posted before about how awesome the Codeable experience has been, specifically how well I’m treated by my superiors. They answer all my questions, give me some tough love when necessary and manage a stable of expert WordPress developers that operate as a tight-knit family.

Meeting these guys was well worth the drive!

And, oh, that drive! If you’ve never had the pleasure of exploring West Texas via the I-10, then you can’t really appreciate how much “nothing” there truly is out there… At least I had some good tunes along for the ride.

Arriving in Austin kicked off a whirlwind day where I got to meet the Codeable team, attend a networking event at WooConference, and hang out with the affiliate marketing gurus (like Dustin) at WP Engine.

So, again: how much do you love your job? Enough to voluntarily drive 2,000 miles and be excited about it?

If your website needs some help then you should hire a certified WordPress expert to make it happen. I’m among the top 10 developers at Codeable and, needless to say, I absolutely love what I do. Get in touch with me below and I’ll put my passion for development on display for you.
